Resident Return Visas (155)
You will qualify for a resident return visa if you have spent two years in the last five years residing in Australia as a permanent resident. Alternatively, if you have substantial business, cultural, employment or personal ties which are of benefit to Australia and you have not been absent from Australia for more than five years unless there were compelling and compassionate reasons and you held a permanent resident visa when you left, then you may qualify for a resident return visa also.
To apply for a Resident Return Visa complete form 1085 (pdf) and pay the fee (pdf).
You can also apply on the internet.
Documents to be included with your application
If you have lived in Australia for two out of the last five years then all that is required is the fee, your passport (with at least one blank page)and the application form.
If you have lived in Australia for LESS than two out of the last five years, then also need to send us documentation demonstrating that you have substantial ties to Australia.
If you have been absent from Australia for MORE than 5 years than in addition to the above, you will need to provide documentation demonstrating that there were compelling and compassionate reasons for your continued absence from Australia.
